Preferences & Default Settings
Your Preferences control how FlowEdge generates documents by default. Set them once, and every document you create will follow your preferred style and structure.
Tone Setting
Choose the default tone for your documents:
- Professional — Balanced and business-appropriate. Works well for most situations.
- Friendly — Warm and approachable. Great for creative industries and small business clients.
- Formal — Traditional and authoritative. Ideal for enterprise clients, legal contexts, or government work.
The tone influences word choice, sentence structure, and the overall feel of your document. You can always change it for individual documents during generation.
💡 Tip
Not sure which tone to pick? Start with “Professional” — it works well for most industries and client types.
Default Sections
Control which sections appear in your generated documents by default. You can toggle sections on or off based on what your documents typically need. For example, you might always want a timeline section but rarely need an “About Us” section.
These defaults apply to new documents. You can still add or remove sections when editing individual documents in the document editor.
Payment Terms
Set your standard payment terms so they are automatically included in proposals and contracts:
- Payment schedule (e.g., 50% upfront, 50% on completion)
- Net terms (e.g., Net 15, Net 30)
- Accepted payment methods
- Late payment policies
✅ Best Practice
Set up your payment terms once in Preferences. They will be included automatically in every proposal and contract, saving you time and keeping your terms consistent.
Signature Block
Configure your default signature block that appears at the end of proposals and contracts. You can include:
- Your name and title
- Your business name
- A signature line for client countersignature
Custom AI Instructions
This is a powerful feature for advanced users. The Custom AI Instructions field lets you give the AI specific guidance that applies to every document it generates. For example:
- “Always mention our 5-year industry experience”
- “Include a section about our sustainable practices”
- “Use metric units instead of imperial”
- “Reference our portfolio at example.com”
These instructions work alongside the document-specific details you provide in the generation form.
⚠️ Important
Keep custom AI instructions clear and specific. Vague instructions like “make it better” will not have much effect. Instead, say exactly what you want the AI to do.
How Preferences Interact With Generation
Your Preferences set the defaults, but they do not lock you in. Every time you generate a document, you can override these defaults:
- Change the tone for a specific client
- Add or remove sections
- Adjust payment terms for a particular project
Think of Preferences as your starting point — they save you from configuring the same settings over and over.
