Document Depth Settings
FlowEdge gives you control over how detailed your generated documents are. The Depth setting lets you choose between two options: Concise and Comprehensive.
The Two Depth Options
Concise
Best for: Smaller projects, initial quotes, quick turnarounds, or clients who prefer brevity.
A concise document gets straight to the point. It covers all the essential information — scope, deliverables, pricing, and terms — without extra detail. Think of it as the “executive summary” approach.
Typical result: 2-4 pages depending on the document type.
Comprehensive
Best for: Complex projects, enterprise clients, high-value engagements, or when you want to demonstrate thoroughness.
A comprehensive document goes deep. It includes detailed explanations, expanded sections, additional context, and thorough breakdowns of each area. This is the option to choose when detail matters.
Typical result: 5-10+ pages depending on the document type.
💡 Tip
When in doubt, start with Comprehensive. It is easier to trim a detailed document than to add missing sections to a concise one.
Quick Comparison
| Aspect | Concise | Comprehensive |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 2-4 pages | 5-10+ pages |
| Detail | Essential points | Full breakdowns |
| Generation time | ~45 seconds | ~75 seconds |
| Best for | Small projects, quick quotes | Complex projects, enterprise clients |
How Depth Affects Each Document Type
The depth setting works differently depending on your document type:
- Proposals — Concise proposals focus on the value proposition and pricing. Comprehensive proposals add detailed methodology, case study references, and expanded timelines.
- SOWs — Concise SOWs list deliverables and milestones. Comprehensive SOWs break down each deliverable, add acceptance criteria, and include detailed responsibilities.
- Contracts — Concise contracts cover essential terms. Comprehensive contracts add detailed clauses and expanded provisions.
- General Documents — The depth scales based on your description and the type of content requested.
Tips for Getting the Right Level of Detail
Your depth setting is just one factor. Here are other ways to influence the detail level:
-
Your project description matters most — A detailed description with specifics leads to a more detailed document, regardless of the depth setting. See Generate Form Fields for tips.
-
Upload reference files — Supporting documents give the AI more material to draw from. See Upload Supporting Documents.
-
Set your preferences — Your Preferences include default section settings and custom AI instructions that shape every document.
✅ Best Practice
Match the depth to your audience. Enterprise clients often expect comprehensive proposals. Small business clients may prefer concise, easy-to-read documents.
Can I Change the Depth After Generating?
The depth setting is applied during generation and shapes the entire document structure. If you want a different depth level, you can regenerate the document with the new setting. You can also manually edit the document in the editor to add or remove detail.
